UVic Lipdub (Canada) - Haven't Met You Yet - Michael Bublé

Here we go, at last the great moment arrived we can enjoy of this awesome lip dub. I'm not sure you can win Spanish UVIC lip dub, but you did a good job. Congrats all of you!!, Enjoy!!! LOL

This Lipdub is made in answer to a lip dub video shot for a "Spanish UVic", receiving over 800,000 hits on YouTube, the video caused many around the world to question which university it came from.

This is a chance for UVic (Victoria, British Columbia) to really show what they can do.

Shawn Slavin a student at UVic is the brain behind the project, who after seeing the other UVic lip dub video, decided that his UVic would have to make one.

What can we say of this amazing lipdub? Yes it's amazing, perhaps it could be better, but we can consider it, as we like to say, it's "Champions League" one. Despite we are not sure it was one shot filmed, it has so many good things that make this question a nonsense.

Lipdub begins on a bus with Shawn accepting the challenge and here we go, music plays and heads begin to dance, from here we remark the flag-man, lipdub on the screen, paper airplanes storm, acrobats, the trumpet running in the library and the final dance (best choreography we've ever seen). There are also things we don't like as the song change. Was it necessary? It means nothing and can brings you some copyrights problems. The lighting problems when camera goes into the movie theatre, may be it's deliberate but so dark.

Congrats Shawn, you've made your dream come true. We enjoyed the whole procedure, as you know, and we enjoy it now too. ;-)

Absolutely, truly, awesomely wonderful! It's amazing! Thank you. (8.5 over 10)

I'm a UVic (Canada) Student that didn't participate:

The scene that is dark (Starting at 2:35 or so) I believe was deliberate, since you'll notice there was almost no-movement to start it, as if it was a movie (it is indeed our movie theatre); when the lights came on, the action started.

The video switch I agree was kind of meh.

I think my biggest concern, after watching it a couple times and watching some other lipdubs is that there is that in every scene there is a lot of people movement. For the first 6 minutes, it never tracks a single person; there is always substantial background movement, to the scale of endless lines of people and 2-10 people leaving camra view or entering it each second. I feel like that detracts from it somehow; from 6 minutes to 7 minutes we get some of that. The focus on scale means a reduced focus on cool individuals doing cool things. I think it's quite good, but I think it's out done by a lot of the other high-end university lipdubs.

I also think the call out to UVic Spain could have been made more tongue in cheek. The point wasn't to "beat them", it was to have fun, and the comment at the start almost implies otherwise, and though I'm pretty sure it's 99% joke, I'm also pretty sure it might not communicate to viewers that don't know Shawn.

Awesome to see the whole school together and so behind it. But as a lip dub its badly made and missed many opportunities to do creative things with the cinematography. Pretty sloppy camera work, very jerky and hard to see individuals.

it was nice. The fountain outside of the library was the best part.

This is amazing. I wish my university could pull this kind of thing off. Hats off to you!

I've watched it a dozen times and it always brings a smile to my face, I'll never get sick of it! I couldn't give a sh*t if it's the 'best' lipdub, or if there were flaws. It's a beautiful example of community spirit, pride, dedication and how much fun we had. I'm so honoured I was able to take part. My university experience is richer because of it and I'll cherish the memories forever. :)

This was not a competition, comparing is ridiculous.

If you are from Spain, yours is a wonderful video. Perhaps a work of art while this was a work of heart.

UVic Spain has a curriculum devoted to digital journalism, popular culture media, marketing and so on. Their LipDub was carefully crafted, cast and organized. Our UVic organized quickly, everyone welcome, with no digital mastery/promotion intended. It was done for fun, charity, community with real people!

Beautifully

YES! 60,000 views already and counting.

UVic is awesome! I'm so proud of our school and all the participants! :)

"we could do so much better than that" Why do you at the beginning have to say that?. By saying that you raised expectations and the fact that it was not better than the other UVic just made us look stupid.

The spanish UVic was more organized, better choreographed, had a theme, a focus and overall provided a better insight to their departments.

Im not saying ours sucked but because you said that at the beginning and we did not make it better than the other UVic makes it stupid

Hey, just wondering if the person who runs this site could edit the text under the video please? It says in brackets "Victoria, Columbia." Columbia is a country, but Victoria is in British Columbia, which is a province of Canada. Nice write up though, you have a great tone and positive outlook!

Done.

Thanks

In all honesty the Spanish UVic's video was far better of one simple reason. They did not suck. Oh, sorry, I meant "they did not have fun." You have to say that to protect the fragile feelings of Canada's UVic students who won't put any effort into their endeavours.

I kind of liked the song switch. It was like the entire university decided to Rick Roll us.

I also thought it was really nice that all of their proceeds went to the BC Children's Hospital Foundation and United Way.
